The Stress superhighway
I feel like I should update.
I'm sorry, all of you potential readers, that I have been bad about posting lately; I've been busy, in that pyscho-ultra-busy kind of way.
I feel like I'm becoming a hermit. Not intentionally; no, definitely not. But I feel as if I am nonetheless. People don't knock on my door all that often any more. I keep it closed, now, 75% of the time. It's lonely without a roommate. People don't just drop by to visit me -- this makes me wonder what I've done to frighten them all away. I'd really just like to be remembered.
I keep my door closed a lot because getting close to the freshmen, most of them anyway, seems like a daunting task. I know them, distantly. But I don't do my homework in the lounge now -- what's the point when I have a room completely to myself?
I don't really want to be a hermit. I'd like for people to come visit me. The problem is, at this point in my academic life, I don't have much time to visit them.
This is why:
In the next 20ish days, I have 5 major, academic-career/life-goal issues to grapple with. Surely they can't be that important, you say... You, sadly, are wrong. I wish you were right.
First, Monday, I have an interview with the D.M.News for a summer internship that I desperately, desperately want. This is significant, first that I got the interview at all, and second because I was the youngest applicant on the interview list. Yip. It wouldn't be entirely crushing if I didn't get it -- let's face it, the odds aren't really in my favor this year -- but this is something I desperately, truly want. So I'd like it to go well. Really well... no pressure at all.
Second. The j-school grammar test. Sometime next week. (still haven't been told when, exactly). If I don't pass this test the first time with an 85 or higher, I will not be in the j-school next semester. I need to be in the j-school next semester to stay one step ahead of the game...So I am definitely brushing up on my grammar... I mean, who really knows direct vs. indirect objects, or the object of a preposition... people don't USE that in real life; they just write.
Apparently, I was wrong. I have to know it. Soon.
Third, Oct. 10, my Listening Post assignment for Cross-Cultural is due. I should do that. It's only a major grade. And a major assignment...yikes.
Fourth, Oct. 11. The MMPT. A test I need to pass with a 26 or higher on. I need to do this so I can get 3 'free' credits on my transcript. I need more credits because the j-school says I need 60 hours to enter the j-school, and, pending the end of this semester, I only have 56. I need to find 4 hours. I haven't taken a math test in two years. It isn't hard, but I've forgotten things. Like slope-intercept form. Simple enough stuff, but I just can't remember. Have to do well. Have to get those lost credits.
Fifth, Oct. 15, Homecoming Breakfast. Not a major class thing, but important because I am 98% doing it. And I'd like it to go well. And it's just one more thing, you know?
Then, after all this (and pending I get that 26 or higher on the MMPT) I need to register for a 1-hour class this semester. It's about Michaelangelo (the artist, not the turtle) and is only a month long, but it would mean I got 17 credits this semester instead of 16. ..one more thing...*sigh*
So it's hard for me to have a strong social life; right now, I'm studying every free moment. But it's also hard for me because I'm depending too much on Adam for entertainment. I'm worried that it is starting to wear on him. I don't mean to, exactly, I just love spending time with him.
Things between us are going swimmingly, by the way. It really is ridiculously marvelous. Unbelievable. It's been 4 months now.
That's what's going on right now. Wish me luck, and send me test-defeating vibes. Strong ones.
